Beginners Navigation Course

Navigation where you are is one of the most important skills if you're venturing into the hills yet it is often overlooked. This one day course introduces the basic concepts and skills of navigation in the British hills helping you become less reliant on gadgets or paths.

It covers the use of OS maps (25 and 50000) and how to relate them to features on ground. You'll learn how to, route plan, develop a strategy to arrive at your destination and how to use a compass for bearings and back bearings.

Advanced Navigation Course

A natural progession from the beginner’s navigation course or for those already with some previous experience. Covers further skills and techniques, gps, navigating in poor visibility and night. Basic navigation is assumed Use of dead reckoning – timing, pacing, vector postioning Navigation techniques for difficult conditions. Appropriate use of map types Contour navigation – aspect, use of altimeters Contouring Boxing, and more advanced Compass techniques Micro and macro techniques
